Understanding Biblical Kingdoms & Empires

Offering a fresh view of the political world of the Bible, this unique volume by Paul H. Wright looks at the land of ancient Israel through the military and economic priorities of the empires of the ancient Near East, then turns the view to look at those same empires through the eyes of the kings and prophets of ancient Israel. This comparative view allows the reader the chance to “look both ways” on the busy corridor that was the map of ancient Israel. Comparative maps illustrate the views.

Paul H. Wright is the Executive Director of Jerusalem University College/Institute of Holy Land Studies in Jerusalem. He was awarded his Ph.D. degree in Bible and Ancient Near East at Hebrew Union College, Cincinnati. He is the author of Greatness Grace & Glory, Understanding the New Testament and (with Menashe Har-El) Understanding the Geography of the Bible, all published by Carta, Jerusalem.
